YahooXtra: What actually happened?

Unless you've been living under a rock you would have heard about the massive issues encountered by Yahoo and Xtra email users over the weekend. But what really happened?

This bomb comes at the end of a tumultuous and rocky month for the Yahoo security team who appear to have been playing cat and mouse with some particularly determined hackers. And now Telecom's YahooXtra service, and a huge number of kiwis, have been caught in the middle.

So what really happened at Yahoo over the last month, and what advice can you give your customers to reduce the likelihood they're caught in future?

Telecomms update: Govt stalls the regulator

The ICT minister, Amy Adams, has announced a full-blown review of the telecommunications industry that is supposed to engender investor confidence in the sector, but has instead destabilised the industry at a critical point in its history.

The Minister has called for three things to happen: (1) Bring forward the TSO review to start immediately; (2) Bring forward the review of the regulation to start immediately; and (3) Extend the UBA wholesale review (in effect freezing it until after this review takes place). So what does all that mean for New Zealand?

This excellent plain-English guidance document outlines some key factors that business owners should consider when evaluating cloud computing options and sits nicely with the NZ Cloud Computing Code of Practice (which outlines minimum disclosures from cloud providers).
