Better late than never as they say. If the emails I received over the weekend asking what happened to last week's Newsline are anything to go by, Newsline has certainly become the 'must-read' ePublication for many readers.

Excellent stuff - and apologies for the publishing delay.

It's been a busy time. As well as new local reps across NZ, last week we announced the big rollout of the Wellington Summer of Tech Programme across New Zealand, welcomed a new staff member, participated in the release of the new "Getting I.T. Right" initiative and there's been a whole heap else happening too.

Across the ditch this week, listening to how it probably should be and learning how it is. Australia's in NBN throes, and everyone wants a finger in that pie.

Ciena flew me over to listen to its CTO Steve Alexander and APAC veep Anthony McLachlan talk about what their thinking is on broadband. It's quite simple really: much faster networks, and everywhere. Alexander reckons that it's basically a gig or GTFO for a decent cloud computing experience for instance.

So you've probably heard there's a bit of an issue when it comes IPv4 addresses - if you haven't you've probably been living on a cloud somewhere, and not the good kind. You will have heard plenty of people talk about this whole IPv6 thing, but what is that and why does it matter?

In short, on 3 February this year IANA allocated the last five /8 IPv4 address blocks, one each, to the five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). As of that day, there are no more "normal" IP addresses. Zip. Oh woe is us!

So really, what does that all mean anyway?

There are lots of good reasons to sell your business, one of them being that you simply want to try something new. Nothing wrong with that.

If the business did well I hope you'll use a portion of the money from the sale to fund the next one and build something even bigger.

Before you get too excited however, remember that selling your business is a huge distraction. It places your business at risk.
