Our industry is in the middle of a well documented and significant skills shortage. One of the areas most affected by the IT skills shortage is effective IT leadership (let's face it most of us weren't attracted to IT because of our love of people).
Without effective leadership we stand little chance of fulfilling our promise and delivering value to the organisations we serve. It can be hard to tell, however, what effective leadership looks like and how we can invest in ourselves and our teams to develop our leadership capability. For example, turn up to an IT event, walk around the room and talk to the IT Leaders who are there you will find they are all different; in some cases radically different in how they think, how they act and what they do.
However, if you dig below the surface you will find that successful IT leaders share seven capabilities in common and it is how these capabilities are deployed that causes the apparent variation in IT Leaders. In this presentation ex-Warehouse CIO Owen McCall will explore what these 7 capabilities are and provide you with a framework that will help you understand how you can become the best leader you can be.

About The Speaker
Owen McCall is an experienced management consultant and CIO / executive who is passionate about creating world class IT teams who use technology to deliver real business value.
He has worked in the IT industry and with technology throughout his career as a consultant working with clients to define technology strategy, implement appropriate technologies and review the effectiveness of technology teams, as an outsourcer where he was responsible for the smooth operation of other organisations systems and as a CIO where he was responsible for delivering real value from IT from the development of IT strategy, the execution of that strategy and the smooth operation of all company systems.
Owen now owns and operates Viewfield Consulting which focuses on supporting CIOs and senior technology executives to create world class teams who deliver value from technology investments to their organisations. The services include IT team transformation, IT strategy development, mentoring executives and senior managers with responsibility for IT functions, leadership development for IT leaders, keynote presentations on leading and engaging with IT.
