IITP Lightning Talks: IT Governance
This is the first IITP Wellington Lightning Talk, featuring three of Australasia's leading experts on enterprise governance of IT and Technology. Lightning Talks are short, energetic presentations over a beer or wine, followed by Q&A and a room-wide discussion and a chance to catch up with others interested in this area.
Whether you're new to IT governance, want to learn more or are a seasoned expert, this session is for you.
About the Talks
We're very fortunate to have the following IT governance experts giving a lightning talk:
Elizabeth Valentine is the MD of international consultancy Enterprise Governance Consulting based in Brisbane, Wellington and Berlin.
With an extensive executive background in the corporate and tertiary education sectors, Elizabeth is currently in the final year of a doctor of IT at Queensland University of Technology. Her thesis covers "Enterprise Technology Governance: new core competencies for boards of directors in their role in digital leadership".
Elizabeth will outline the findings from her research and what that means for IT governance going forward.
Murray Wills is the Chair of the IITP IT Governance Taskforce, the board set up to work with IITP, the Institute of Directors and others to promote the adoption of good IT Governance standards in New Zealand.
The IT Governance Taskforce uses a mix of education, information, training and public speaking to help Boards understand their obligations around governance of IT.
Murray is a Wellington-based consultant and Virtual CIO for a number of significant companies around NZ. He is an IT Governance specialist and regularly speaks at conferences and undertakes training for Boards, senior management and IT professionals in this area - including leading the IITP short courses in IT Governance.
Murray will talk about what IT Governance means for your organisation, from a practical perspective.
Alison Holt is an internationally acclaimed expert in the Corporate Governance of Information Technology (IT) and Sustainability Management. Alison chairs the New Zealand Mirror Groups for the ISO/IEC IT Service Management and IT Governance committee, JTC1/SC40 and the Software and System Engineering committee, JTC1 SC7. In this role she holds the NZ vote for new standards in a one-country-one-vote system, and she represents the views and opinions of New Zealand subject-matter-experts.
As part of her international standards work, Alison chaired the first worldwide ISO Working Group reviewing IT governance frameworks and practices, which was responsible for the publication of the first international IT governance standard in June 2008. The British Computer Society published Alison's first book, "Governance of IT: An Executive Guide to ISO/IEC 38500" in 2013. Alison will give a quick update of IT Governance from a Standards perspective.
