You studied computer science or engineering - so you’ve probably been told your next step is software development. But the reality is, there’s a much wider world of tech careers that go far beyond writing code.
'Not Just a Dev Thing' is a panel event designed to open your eyes to the full spectrum of career paths available to technically-minded people. Whether it's product management, operations, partnerships, public sector innovation, or even animation and VFX—these roles rely on the same problem-solving mindset and technical fluency you’ve developed, applied in new and creative ways.
At the same time, the tech landscape is shifting. AI is reshaping entry-level dev roles and making it easier for non-engineers to build and prototype. As technical execution becomes more accessible, non-technical skills—like communication, stakeholder management, user empathy, and strategic thinking—are becoming essential differentiators.
Our panel features professionals who’ve built successful tech careers outside traditional software development roles—drawing on their technical backgrounds while developing complementary strengths across product, operations, creative industries, and the public sector. And we won’t stop at sharing stories.
This panel is all about tactics: What non-technical skills are most valuable today? How can you develop them while still in school? How do you play to your strengths as an engineer or technical thinker—and apply them in roles that don’t revolve around writing code? You’ll leave with practical ideas for how to build a well-rounded skillset that unlocks more opportunities in a rapidly changing industry.
Whether you're uncertain about coding full-time or just curious about your options, this is your chance to rethink what a successful tech career can look like—and get the tools to start building it.
